PETALING JAYA - Malaysias pioneer in 4G broadband, Packet One Networks (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd ("P1") today unveiled its P1 2.0 Evolution plan slated to propel the organisation to an eminent next generation telco that is "Built for More" and to satiate broadband-hungry Malaysians.

The P1 2.0 Evolution addresses three major areas namely:
1. Offering the Best of Both Worlds
2. Spearheading 4G TD LTE
3. Bridging the Great Business Divide

Explaining the rationale of the first P1 2.0 Evolution to deliver the Best of Both Worlds, Chief Executive Officer of P1 Michael Lai informed that P1 will be the only telco in Malaysia and one of the few telcos in the world to offer fibre optics broadband alongside a 4G wireless service. This exclusive combination is designed to meet the needs of customers who desire premium grade broadband service at a fixed location while must have the convenience of 4G wireless broadband when out and about. P1’s fibre optics will be available to Malaysians within its coverage and details of the exciting best of both worlds packages will make its debut in late March.

The P1 2.0 second Evolution of Spearheading 4G TD LTE Lai said, "P1 started out as a fixed wireless 4G broadband provider and later enhanced our offering of nomadic services using the USB dongle as our 4G coverage expanded. We will continue to grow our momentum in the nomadic segment because these customers will benefit from the dual-mode WiMAX and TD LTE technologies beyond 2012. As the Malaysian broadband market matures, the demand for mobile and personal broadband gets greater. Therefore, P1 has been preparing for the future with TD LTE technology. Most of P1 base stations have a dual-mode of 4G WiMAX and TD LTE technologies that are built for complimenting each other and ultimately pave a systematic transition to advanced TD LTE. P1 customers can in the near future experience the most advanced speeds in broadband technology at amazing value for money."

TD LTE or Time Division Long Term Evolution is an international technology standard for next generation 4G telecommunications. P1 is the only member from Malaysia in the Global TD LTE Initiative ("GTI") founded in February 2011 by five major global operators ie. China Mobile Limited, Clearwire in the US, Bharti Airtel of India, Softbank in Japan and Vodafone of Europe support TD-LTE development. TD LTE promises super high speed broadband that will fundamentally alter the way users view the utility of mobile data and create opportunities for innovative application developers and entrepreneurs to approach the market. GTIs membership currently stands at 40; representing over half of the world’s population as its potential market for commercialisation.

The third P1 2.0 Evolution of Bridging the Great Business Divide will concentrate on helping Malaysian businesses become more efficient, productive and more profitable. In the past, about 90 per cent of P1’s customers are consumers. Moving forward, P1 be extending to the business market especially small and medium businesses.

"With the advent of the Internet, time and space are irrelevant. We see a lot of momentum in Malaysian SMBs for information and communications technology service development so that they can be more competitive locally and globally," Lai explained. P1’s business suites range from fibre optics broadband, session initiation protocol (SIP) trunking service, voice services to a plethora of Internet Protocol-related offerings.

The P1 2.0 Evolution plan which is well underway, will chart P1 to become a full-fledged wired and wireless 4G broadband provider with value-added multi-services solutions.

Lai concluded; "As P1 evolves into the next phase of its amazing 4G journey, there are invaluable lessons learnt along the way. Operating and managing a 4G telco is a totally different ball game from the conventional voice offering. At the end of the day, we want to connect Malaysians to the world better, faster and richer."
